2026 NADTA Virtual Symposium
March 7 - March 8, 2026
Liberated Voices: Cross-Cultural Drama Therapy for Collective Care and Community Empowerment
This year’s Virtual Symposium seeks to honor lived experiences, reflect on the systems and histories that shape identity, and explore how drama therapy can cultivate collective care, connection, and agency. In the face of marginalization, displacement, trauma, or systemic inequity, drama therapy offers creative tools to witness, imagine, resist, and transform. Grounded in the belief that liberation is creative and communal, this theme invites practitioners, students, scholars, and community artists to explore practices that strengthen community power, nourish belonging, and support healing in cross-cultural contexts.
We invite proposals that explore:
- • Drama therapy approaches that amplify systemically silenced voices
- • Cross-cultural, international, and transnational practices in drama therapy
- • Community-based interventions that foster collective care and shared power
- • Creative processes that support identity, inclusion, social liberation, and belonging
- • Methods for co-creating narratives, rituals, or performances that strengthen connection
- • Research, theory, or case studies centered on nontraditional or community-centered work
- • Strategies to address inequities and support culturally varied communities
Accessibility, Inclusion & Participation
We especially encourage submissions from presenters:
- Across global, international, and transnational communities
- Working outside academic or U.S.-centric frameworks
- For whom English is not a first language
- Alternative track members
