NADTA Quantitative Research Grant for the Advancement of Drama Therapy

Purpose of Grant: A strong empirical evidence-base is essential for the growth of the profession of drama therapy. This North American Drama Therapy (NADTA) research grant will support a quantitative research study that focuses on the effectiveness of drama therapy.

Amount of Award: Up to 3000 USD.

Number of Awards Available:  

  • One award will be granted.
  • At present, this grant is a one-time initiative.


Criteria:

  • Research proposal must involve quantitative measurement.
  • Central research question(s) must involve drama therapy and an aspect of effectiveness.
  • Proposals must include research plan (information about previous literature, research design, hypotheses, planned analyses, budget).
  • Preference will be given to studies where the interventions utilized in the study are being facilitated by a NADTA Registered Drama Therapist (RDT), or that the person facilitating is being supervised by an RDT. Exceptions to this criteria will be considered and will be judged based on the strength and relevance of the rationale.
  • At least one applicant per proposal must be a member of the North American Drama Therapy Association in good standing.

Announcement of Successful Applicants: Early November, 2019


Successful applicants:

  • Recipients will receive feedback from the NADTA Research Chair and/or research review committee; full consideration and incorporation of feedback is expected and is a contingency to full grant funding.
  • Ethics approval by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) or a Research Ethics Board (REB) is required prior to receipt of funding (please note that the NADTA does not have its own IRB/REB).
  • Recipients will be encouraged to present at the NADTA conference, publish their work,  and apply to present at non-drama therapy conferences.
  • Funds must be used prior to January 15, 2021.


Notes on Additional Funding:

  • Applicants are welcome to apply for multiple sources of funding. We encourage all applicants to learn about the Drama Therapy Fund as a source of support.
