2017 Central Region Conference

Finding Our Niche: Where in the Central Region Are the Drama Therapists

April 29 & 30, 2017
Kansas State University – Manhattan, KS
Purple Masque Theatre (780 Denison Ave.)

At times, we in the Central Region can feel a little lost and lonely when it comes to finding work or opportunities for our work.  While some may find a job as a drama therapist, others will incorporate drama therapy in their work or meld drama therapy into other helping fields.

This year at the Central Region Conference, we will invite our regional members to come together to share their techniques, examples, experiences, connections, and ideas of how they have found a place for themselves as a drama therapist within their work.  We would like a variety of presentation-based and experiential-based workshops which include not only drama therapy but other professions that relate to drama therapy.

VENUE INFORMATION:

There is no bus system in Manhattan; therefore, it is a good idea to pick a hotel close to campus or to connect with someone local that has a car and is okay with carpooling.  There are taxi services.

To get to the conference:

Purple Masque Theatre is located next to the KSU Parking Garage on the corner of Anderson Ave. and Denison Ave.

The fee parking garage is located at the corner of N. 17th St. and Anderson Ave.

The parking garage costs $1.50 per hour.

Please note, off street is also available south of campus, if you don’t mind a little walk.

MEALS:

No meals are included again this year; however, Purple Masque Theatre is near Aggieville, a small business section which includes many great restaurants such as Rock-A-Belly Deli, Keltic Star, and Bluestem Bistro, among many others.  Aggieville is a short 5-10 minute walk from the Purple Masque.

ACCOMMODATIONS:

Since this is a smaller scale conference, we do not have a hotel room block. However, here are some suggestions of places to stay during the 2016 Central Region Conference:

Holiday Inn Manhattan At the Campus : Right across the street from campus

The Bluemont Hotel : Right across the street from campus (this one may be a little pricy)

Four Points by Sheraton : Will need transportation to get from hotel to campus

We would also like to see if Manhattan people would be willing to let people stay at their homes to help lower costs for attendees. Please email Alissa at centralrep@nadta.org if you are willing to have people stay with you (and how many you can accommodate) and if you are someone who would like to stay with local people.

Other options can be found under travel sites like Expedia, Travelocity, etc.

Finally, for those of you flying into Manhattan, the closest airport is the Manhattan Regional Airport which has daily flights to and from Dallas and Chicago.  You may visit FlyMHK or Expedia to book a flight.  Kansas International Airport is the second closest airport; however, it is approximately 2 hours away.

More to come around the beginning of April.
